Photovoltaic shading systems: a mature approach

Photovoltaic shading systems: a mature approach

Photovoltaic canopies, which enhance already artificial spaces like parking lots, are now a well-established technology. However, the sector faces the same difficulties as the rest of the industry.

Photovoltaic Canopies Offer Many Advantages

They make use of already artificial surfaces, such as parking lots, freeing up already congested rooftops and preserving agricultural land. They also rely on local expertise for installation and, while generating renewable electricity, provide protection against the sun and rain. This is a highly valued service by users, as evidenced by the attendance figures at large stores that have equipped themselves with these canopies! Now part of the mature technology family recognized by the government, canopies still face the same challenges as the rest of the industry: unstable purchase rates and unsuitable tenders. However, professionals in this sector remain convinced that France will follow in the footsteps of its Northern European neighbors who are already committed to this cause. In the meantime, they are rolling up their sleeves to improve the regulatory framework and firmly believe in a brighter future.

The Disappointments of the French Photovoltaic Industry

Many had placed their hopes in a change of government. After some encouraging signs, the photovoltaic sector is experiencing a return of the "stop-and-go" effect: canceled tenders, modified procedures, and various obstacles. The discontent is palpable. Professional unions, whether large or small, are trying to make their voices heard by the government, arguing the urgency of maintaining sufficient activity to preserve jobs. Nearly 15,000 jobs have been lost in two years. That's equivalent to six PSA-Aulnay! Some, to survive, are choosing to focus on niche markets and specialize, others are expanding their service offerings, or focusing on international markets. The sector is perplexed and evidently worried.

When the Chinese Bubble Bursts

Following the example of the United States, Europe might soon decide to heavily tax wafers, cells, modules, and even solar glass from China, accused of unfair trade practices. While this perspective strongly divides the sector within the Union, between defenders of "fair" competition and those who fear that all players in the value chain will suffer, the Chinese giant Suntech Power, formerly the world leader in panels, is on the brink of insolvency. The global photovoltaic industry is undergoing major restructuring...
