What is a solar inverter for your solar panel?

As you know, the solar panel is an essential piece of equipment for supplying your home with green energy. But you should also think about photovoltaic inverters, which play an essential role in domestic solar installations. this device transforms the direct current produced by solar panels into alternating current.

To help you make the right choice for your inverter, Alma Solar talks to you in this post about the different types and brands.

How do I buy a solar inverter?

Choose from our solar device list. You can choose from different brands, like SMA, FRONIUS, SOLAREDGE, SOLAX, KACO (now SIEMENS), I'M SOLAR, HUAWEI and ENPHASE. You can also filter by power 3kW, 5kW, 10kW, single phase or three phase.

What type of solar inverter?

Inverter technologies have evolved considerably. So you're probably wondering: which should I choose? What type is the most suitable and cost-effective? To find out more about the different types available and which is the right choice for your needs, follow us :

  • On-grid inverter: Most small-scale solar panel installation systems use an on-grid inverter, also known as a ‘centralised’ inverter. These solution are the most commonly installed inverters. The DC (direct current) electricity generated by the solar panels is plugged into this inverter. It converts this electricity into alternating current (AC) electricity. The advantage of it is its performance and cost. They are also the easiest to maintain, as they are in an easily accessible location. These inverters now incorporate shade management, which makes up for their shortcomings when compared with solar microinverters.
  • Micro-inverters: As their name suggests, micro-inverters are much smaller in size and capacity than standard inverters. While standard inverters (network inverters) are between 1.5 and 5 kW in size for residential applications, they are generally around 200 to 600 W in size. Unlike grid inverters, which convert all the DC electricity produced collectively by your panels, micro-inverters are generally installed on the back of each panel and convert the DC electricity from one or 2 solar panels on which they are installed. One of the main advantages is they cancel out the effect of partial or complete shading on one or more solar panels. However, they are more expensive than grid inverters.
  • Hybrid battery inverters: Hybrid inverters are designed to manage the power of the solar panels between the battery and your energy requirements. They determine the most economical source of energy between solar panels, solar batteries and the electricity grid. These are state-of-the-art. This product can work with or without batteries and also with or without the electricity grid. This means they can be adapted to suit all customer needs. Installing battery inverters is more expensive and more complicated. That's why ALMA SOLAR has set up a YouTube channel to teach you how to install these hybrid inverters, by brand respectively.
  • Power optimisers: Like micro, power optimisers can improve the efficiency of your solar panel system, and they are cheaper. They also offer the advantage of monitoring the performance of individual panels. What's more, systems with power optimisers can still produce significant energy even if one or two panels are underperforming. However, solar photovoltaic systems with power optimisers are more difficult to maintain.
  • Hybrid inverters: Did you know? Hybrid inverters perform the same function as standard string and battery inverters. A hybrid inverter can not only convert DC electricity into AC but also charge and discharge your solar battery. Another important point to bear in mind: most hybrid inverters can be installed without a battery.
  • Off-grid inverters: Like grid inverters, off-grid inverters are responsible for converting the DC electricity generated by the panels in your system into AC electricity that can be used by appliances in your home. However, unlike grid inverters, they do not have the capacity to export excess solar electricity to the grid. Off-grid inverters are used in remote areas. Are you still there? We're now going to talk about different brands. Are you ready?

How do you choose your solar inverter?

You are probably wondering: Which should I use? Through this category page, available in our shop, Alma Solar gives you some advice on how to choose it. To find the best solar installation suitable for you, its rated power must be equal to the rated power of your solar system. For example, if your solar system is rated at 2000 watts, you will need a product with around 2000 watts, perhaps a little more. If you want to run several appliances at the same time and want to make sure that it can handle the load, simply add up all the DC Watt values of all the appliances that can run simultaneously.

Finally, we hope that this article helps you choose a reliable UPS with a high storage system that allows you to supply your home with energy and guarantee your self-consumption. Always remember that investing in green energy is a win-win situation! But the worst thing that can happen is that you end up buying something that won't last, forcing you to repaire or replace. So don't hesitate to contact ALMA SOLAR, a leader of solar solution.
